The final project requires students to propose for potential new usage for building conservation. First, we were to investigate and observe practices and approaches on architecture conservation in local context, then to select a building to be explored, documented and an adaptive reuse approach was to be proposed.

In a group of 5, we had selected the Rainbow Shophouses located in Jalan Sultan Iskandar, Ipoh as our case study. Currently, renewed enthusiasm for Ipoh's heritage is seeing old shophouses restored, while new cafes are opened up in historical buildings. Taking this trend and opportunity, we had chosen one of the old shophouses, the red corner shophouse among the seven shops due to its most strategic spot at the road junction despite its heritage value.

Measured drawings are documented, followed by a proposal of adaptive reuse on The Red House.

Through this project, we developed a deeper understanding on the importance of historical sites and heritage buildings, with higher appreciation on architectural conservation mainly in the local context. We had also gained exposure to wide and diverse range of practice and debate in the related field.
