This project involves the documentation of our Studio 6 Architectural Design Project, to apply the principles learned in Project 1 to our final project.
The objectives of this project include to understand the application of management techniques in the control and direction of project resources, to evaluate the dynamic changes which occur during a project’s life cycle and the nature of a project’s success and to understand the means of evaluating and managing risks that can lead to success and failure in a project’s performance.

My task is to document my Design Studio Project from the point of view of a Project Manager.
The 5 main components to be included are:

1. Introduction of Project (clients, stakeholders, objectives and goals).
2. Design Analysis, picking up issues of Design Suitability and Project Viability and specifically related to your design. 
3. Project Procurement and Resource Planning 
4. Risk Analysis, and Maintenance Strategy 
5. Success Criteria, WBS, Gantt chart 

This project involves the application of the principles, issues and theories discussed thus far in the Project Management module, and their application into a simple construction project.
Students are expected to be able to define project characteristics, objectives, organizations and success, to apply Project Management tools and techniques to control and communicate to achieve a common goal as well as to summarize strategies for the execution of the development process in response to the client's objectives.

In a group of 6, our task is to design and manage a simple construction project in a way that emphasizes cost, quality and time, with a measurable ‘success criteria’.
There are 4 main components which include:

•  Introduction, Expanded organizational chart, Conclusion with 1 case study
•  Design (Analysis, Proposal), Success Criteria
• Project scheduling & monitoring - Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) / Gantt Chart
• Minutes of meetings, meeting agendas

Taylor's University has selected your esteemed Project Management company among few other companies to propose a new recreational area. The purpose is to manage and facilitate any future outdoor activities for staff and students, as this will create a common bond within the campus community.
As a start, the 'Recreation District'will be used for the upcoming Architectural Workshop to be held at the University compound in August 2018. As such, it needs to be carefully planned and implemented to its completion before August 2018. In order not to interfere with the campus activities during the semester, a proper project management plan has to prepared.
Budget allocation: RM 1,500,000 (not inclusive of professional fees) 

Site Information and Other Requirements: 

In addition to the ability to develop our own position in developing the individual project within the theme of ‘sustaining humanities’- architecture for people, place and time, one key aspect of the design project is to develop holistic and integrated aspects of technology, environment and cultural context in architectural design.
Subsequent to developing a Design Strategy and Schematic Design, students are required to further develop scheme with the incorporation of environmental strategies and technological resolutions. The intention of integrating the E&T aspect is to strengthen design on the aspect of sustainability and buildability. The studies will be included in a 5000 word comprehensive design report. This phase is integrated with the module Building Technology 2. The co-requisite module looked into how to improve the structural aspect and buildability of the project.

Architectural Design Project is a studio that forms the cap stone for the Bachelor of Science (Hons) Architecture programme, emphasizing on the broad theme of sustaining humanities.
This module is a thematic studio based on the theme of “sustaining humanities’ architecture for people, place and time. Designing for sustainability has been a fundamental issue for architects in our time within global and regional contexts. In line with the current discourse on sustainability, It upholds the believe that architecture can create better places, that architecture can affect society and humanity, and that it can have a role in making a place civilized by making a community more liveable.
Students are required to further develop the proposed design project given by the studio supervisor that reflects the theme and finalize a programme that addresses the needs of the required user group, as well as provides spaces that invite interaction with the surrounding contextual conditions.

In this first part of the project, we students are to assemble all the parts and pieces of the bigger picture:
1.Reviewing building code and local or city ordinance,
2. Initiative on establishing design parameters,
3. Take initiative consider and study solar analysis and other site specific analysis,
4. Research on precedents or do actual visitation to projects related and directly relevant to the proposal and
5. Research on demography, user profile and understanding who we are designing for.

Following is the digital presentation done by my group for the pre-design analysis.
Site given is located in Titiwangsa Lake Garden, Kuala Lumpur.

This assignment is aligned with the Studio Design Project and aims to facilitate students in the technical studies and development of their design. It deals with the analysis and establishment of the structural and the envelope systems of the student’s design to ensure that the design has logical and workable construction systems. It also encourages students to think about construction as integral part of the design and not just an afterthought. Most of the times amateur designers tend to design their spaces without thinking about the construction aspects and later on have to change and redesign their schemes due to the designs were unbuildable. This assignment was designed with the intention to tackle this issue and to increase the technical competency of students.

Objectives:
1. To encourage analytical and critical study of the principles, practices and details of building technology in the student’s own design.
2. To encourage students to consider the construction aspects throughout the design process.
3. To adapt and implement the alternative construction systems into the students’ design.

Task:
A. Alternative Design Schemes
1. Conduct some precedent studies of recent, complex or unique construction systems that could be applied in the design. They should include the following:
i) The roof system
ii) TWO (2) facade systems
iii) The structural system including the floor system

2. Next, conduct a thorough study on all the systems to answer the following questions:
i) What is the type of construction system used?
ii) What is/are the material(s) used in the system?
iii) How is the system constructed? (i.e. detailing)
iv) What is/are the advantage(s) of the system?
v) What is/are the disadvantage(s) of the system?
vi) Why did you choose the system considering the advantages and disadvantages of it?

3. Then, using the similar systems as the ones in the case studies, produce TWO (2) alternatives of façade design schemes for the current studio design project. Each scheme should include only the front and the rear façades (in scale 1:100). The drawings can be created based on the students’ current progress in the studio.


B. Sectional Perspectives
Task 2 on the other hand is intended to facilitate students to develop practical construction solutions and detailing for their own design through the production of sectional perspective drawings of spaces. Students are required to produce detail sectional perspective drawing of TWO interesting spaces in their design; which consists of a space on the ground floor and a space on the top floor.
The sectional perspective of the room on the ground floor should show the connections between the foundations, ground floor slab, façade, structures and the upper floor slab. On the top floor the sectional perspective should highlight the connections between the floor slab, structures, façade, and the roof. The drawings should be produced in appropriate scale (between 1:50 to 1:30), clearly annotated and accompanied by dimensions.

Precedent studies and analysis are compiled in an A3 report

This project aims to integrate students' understanding of the principles of lighting design in the context of their final design project of Studio 5. It encompasses artificial and day lighting systems as well as the implementation of PSALI design strategies.

Objectives:
1. To show understanding of artificial lighting and daylighting strategies (PSALI) in their final design.
2. To solve design problems in relation to sustainability issues (natural lighting, site analysis).
3. To design spaces incorporating artificial and daylighitng.

Task:
Each student is to identify two significant spaces in their final design for implementing the artificial and daylighting strategies (PSALI). Students are to produce:
1. A brief site analysis
2. Overall floor plan
3. Floor plans of 'Space A' and 'Space B'
4. Sections of 'Space A' and 'Space B'
5. Reflected ceiling plans
6. Lighting contours
7. Types of lamps to be used
8. To determine reflectance on walls, ceilings and floors
9. Daylighting calculation
10. Lumen method calculation
11. Lighitng design proposal

Analysis are to be presented in two A2 boards, with calculations compiled into A4 report.

An auditorium is a special room built to enable an audience to hear and watch performances at venues such as theatres and music halls. For movie theatres, the number of auditoriums is expressed as the number of screens. Auditorium can be found in entertainment venues, community halls, and may be used for rehearsal, presentation, performing arts productions, etc. Apart from entertainment, an auditorium also used for a space for speech delivery such as lecture theatres. A successful design of auditoriums muchly depend on its acoustic design which include the auditorium layout plus absorption materials used. It is essential to preserve and enhance the desired sound and to eliminate noise and undesired sound.

Task:
In a group of 8, students are to conduct a case study on auditorium locally. It is an observe and report case study. Each group is required to obtain permission from the responsible personnel of the selected building.
